(1,668 posts)It just so happens that progressives have been right about just about everything over the last 15 years and republicans have been wrong about everything. That is why I am a progressive.
A progressive point of view is a thinking person's point of view. It is the point of view of a person that is aware of what is going on in this country. While I am sure that there are some that feel liberalism in their souls like a religion, it is certainly not necessary to feel it in this way to arrive at the same conclusions.
Is it a good thing for republicans that they always stand by their pundits, no matter what they say? Maybe that keeps their 26ish% base happy, but I think it also turns a lot of people off, particularly the kind of people they need to win elections in non-gerrymandered districts.
Bashir made very distasteful comments. They were also completely unnecessary as Sarah Palin has no influence whatsoever on anyone that is not already unreachable by facts or reason. I see no logical reason for me to feel outrage at the outcome of this incident just because Bashir is on the same side of the political spectrum as I am.
Progressives do not win converts by taking the low road followed by the lunatic right-wing pundits. Can you imagine Rachael Maddow or Chris Hayes making the comments made by Bashir? I can't.
