The theory that the moon is a dead, solid rock was disproved a number of years ago when modern seismological techniques were applied to data being returned from various sensors on the moon itself. These techniques revealed the internal structure of the moon, and a lot of people were surprised to find that it's a lot like Earths...right down to the iron core surrounded by liquid magma.

The "hollow moon" theory is a lot like the theory of ether. It made sense to some people at the time it was postulated because it fit the known facts of its time. Nowadays we know better.
