I don't have Twitter, or Facebook, or Myspace either; I don't SMS, I don't even have a smartphone, I use an old Motorola and only make calls in emergencies. I don't feel a need to be constantly connected. Nor to share what I happen to be doing at any given time in 140-character updates. Nor to have people I haven't spoken to in 20 years and haven't wanted to suddenly "friend" me on Facebook. Social networking is designed for shallow extroverts; it's great if you're one of those people, but I am not.

Yeah, it took me a few beats. I edited the post, but it was too late. Again, good one.

My friend just doesn't understand those of us who march to the beat of a different flute.

Like you I don't have anything against those things. I don't do Facebook or Twitter but I do text,

DU feels like a social networking site to me. OK, maybe an old-school social networking site.

No spinning wheel, but I do have an old IBM AT in the closet collecting dust and rust.

Given Kindle's staggering privacy issues, I wouldn't use one if they paid me.

Join the crowd. I'm a geek from way back. I don't text. I use Firefox 3.6.18. Don't DWY.

Give the Kindle a try. Only $79, and you can return it if you don't like it. (nt)
