16. Jefferson probably was an atheist

Back then it was political suicide to admit to being an atheist (as if it still isn't). Many hid behind deism or other belief systems to disguise their atheism. Neither Jefferson or Adams were Christians, at least in any sense of that word that most people would consider Christian.

If dipshits like Palin knew what Adams and Jefferson meant by "creator", which is really more of a deism reference, they would fear that far more than atheism.
