3. When my daughter was 5 yrs old

...she's now 26, I was Executive Director of Alamogordo Area AIDS Awareness and was surrounded by dozens of gay men, I explained to her this way, "Most women want to marry men; most men want to marry women; some women, like your Aunt Connie don't want to marry anyone (a slight fib, Connie never had anyone propose to her); some men don't want to marry anyone, but some men want to marry men ands some women want to marry women."

Even at 5, she understood that love & marriage went together (well, occasionally!) and she understood marriage (she was flower girl at her sister's wedding when she was 4 yrs old), so that was the easiest way to explain it at that time.

I've never regretted that way..for her.
