50. I doubt Palin was McCain's choice

There was that fashion analysis that found that Palin's outfits were exactly in line with the Bushes', but apparently nobody bothered to clue Cindy McCain in. I suspect she was foisted on him with the story (which was true) that she was needed to keep the rednecks that are The Matter with Kansas engaged. She could fill a stadium; McCain could not.

If my hunch that Karl Rove wanted Obama in the WH is correct, the GOP needed to get a lot of media for their populist VP candidate to give an impression of party vitality that their sick old presidential candidate could not. Frustrating the red-staters' wishes to see "She's One of Us!" Palin in the White House would guarantee their continued engagement in subsequent years to keep control of Congress.
