and threw a bunch of people on the street who need help more than anything else in the world.

Is walking around and being homeless helping these people? I'm asking ironically, since we all know the answer. Just because you pretend they aren't there doesn't mean they aren't. A lot of them are veterans too - it's okay for both parties to sneer at individual soldiers, but they can love "the troops™" at the same time, somehow.
