In reply to the discussion: Hindus Propose Giant Monkey God Statue On Oklahoma Capitol Grounds [View all]Swede Atlanta
(3,596 posts)I would be very surprised if any of these requests were granted. After all when OK decided to allow religious icons on the state capitol grounds they meant icons of a specific religion - white, conservative, baptist. After all that is the only real religion in the world.
So I see court cases going eventually all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. The state will deny the requests. The ACLU will file suit and this will wind through the state and eventually the federal court systems.
In the end I think the U.S. Supreme Court will rule that OK has to let the Satanists have their statue of Lucifer, the Hindus their statue, Buddhists theirs, etc.
It is just like in I believe Louisiana where state legislators are having fits over non-Christians asking for school vouchers to send their children to Islamist schools. The state legislator who proposed the law is quoted as saying...and I'm paraphrasing ... well we of course only meant this to apply to parents that want to send their children to Christian schools.
