2. Political/social commentary book sales are often not real sales.

Think-tanks and special interest groups buy them in bulk, then give them away (or offer them for really cheap) with membership to the group.

This happens on the left and right.

It's about time for the NYT and USA Today lists to stop counting these as "sales." As someone who rarely reads non-fiction, I don't care all that much, but still it would be nice to see the bestseller lists reflect true sales.
