DU is not the norm. Go to your park or grocery store or anywhere else and ask 10 people to name the current Republican candidates - I'd bet even people who voted in the republican primary last week would have a hard time listing them all (and a majority didn't even vote in the primary). Most people won't pay much attention until August or later.

People are asked "Obama vs Romney?" or "Obama vs any Republican?". But they answer

"Am I better off than 4 years ago?"
or
"Is the economy good?"
or
"Are gas prices too high?"

or some people have a specific issue they care about so answer

"Am I happy with the war situation(s)?"
or
"Is Obamacare working for me?"
or
"What has my union gained in 3 year? (i.e. card check)"

I don't expect a lot to change by the election. The choice in the battleground states will likely be "Keep Obama" or "Change" and it won't matter what "change" means.
