They're also quite the stubborn breed. Trying to get a beagle to do something you want to do, as opposed to what the beagle thinks would be a good idea to do, is futile. Eventually you learn to go and do as the beagle wishes.
Our beagle/basset, Dude, is also a 45 lb. lap dog, by his own definition. There is no lap upon which he will not sit, and nothing you can do will turn him away from sitting on it. Uff da!
