Sure, it's a bit complicated; but it's not impossible. E.g., some socialist democracies do a much better job than we do at discouraging extreme concentrations of income and capital in the hands of the 1%; and their people seem better off for it.
The solution involves a lot of changes: busting up elites' control of news media, busting up elites' control of our banking system, restoring laws protecting organized labor, enforcing anti-trust laws and limiting the size of conglomerates, restoring laws protecting organized labor, and rolling back elites' take-over of education, for starters.
