In reply to the discussion: Darrell Issa Hid The Truth About Benghazi For a Year While Attacking President Obama [View all]frazzled
(18,402 posts)It is the one of the most influential media outlets in the nation, and any serious reporting on this subject henceforth will be based on the extensive investigative research the Times did on this subject. It is pretty much an "end of story" piece.
The poster said "the media won't report this": I found that statement to be ludicrous, because without the media (in this instance, the NYT), it wouldn't have been known to any of us at all, ever. The media created this story, and someone needed to say that.
It seems what folks are concerned with is the "Infotainment" media such as Fox or CNN (or even, I daresay, MSNBC), which are not really news outlets at all in my estimation but jibber-jabber, mouth-flapping reality shows, for the most part. They're political outlets. No serious investigative news ever makes its way onto Fox, so please don't expect it to report on these Benghazi findings. It's truly naive to think they would ever do that under any circumstances. The genesis of the whole Benghazi story was political, not factual, so it's not likely to be corrected now by any outlet that was merely interested in inflicting political damage.
I'm flattered that you apparently think I'm some young naif. I turn 64 in a few months. And I can tell you that in the 70s and 80s (I remember the 50s and 60s as well), this would never have been a story to correct in the first place, because there would have been no crazy tea-party zealots and Fox Newses to create the false story in the first place.
