In reply to the discussion: MSNBC Host Makes Fun of Mitt Romney’s Black Grandson [View all]MADem
(135,425 posts)169. No it isn't.
And until you walk a mile in the shoes of those black women on the panel, speaking truth to power, and doing it with wry humor instead of a dose of understandable bitterness, you had just better stow the "Shame on yous" and understand that some people come at life from a VERY different perspective that you enjoy.
The only person being "mocked" was the white patriarch in that picture, who thinks that snuggling up to his black grandbaby will make all his discriminatory economic policies go away.
You don't seem to understand that I saw how Mitt Romney fucked over the community as governor of MA. I know what this asshole is made of. Let's review, shall we?
---He was in favor of the DEATH PENALTY (which was already abolished in MA) when he ran for governor. Now, if you don't realize that the death penalty affects people of color way more than it does the pale among us, you need to learn that fact.
---He promised to bring businesses to Roxbury and Dorchester, communities that have large minority populations. Those communities, as well as Lawrence MA, another city in the state with large minority representation, got worse, not better, and no "businesses" ever turned up.
---He told the NAACP after being booed by them that they "wanted free stuff."
---And just in case you're unclear about how he is not 'down with the brown,' check this out:On June 17, 2003, shortly after taking office, Romney eliminated the state Office of Affirmative Action, which had ensured that state agencies met hiring goals for minorities, veterans, and disabled people. Amid criticism, Romney established an advisory panel to examine the changes. He eventually let things return to the way they had been, though the existing policies werent formally reinstated until after he left office.
---You want more? Get a load of this Romney reality:
...Under Romney, the Massachusetts economy sputtered to 47th in the nation in job creation -- and that was in relatively good economic times. Real wages declined (while rising across the nation). Instead of helping workers and small businesses adjust to changes in the global economy, Romney cut critical work force training programs and millions in economic development funds. Instead of promoting Massachusetts to attract jobs, he used the state as a punchline on the national Republican political circuit.....Young people and jobs were leaving our state. Our roads and bridges were crumbling, and his Republican predecessors' poor oversight of the infamous Big Dig project in downtown Boston resulted in billions of dollars of cost overruns, substandard workmanship and debilitating debt that he made no effort to remedy.
In the face of budget challenges, what did Romney do? He raised nearly every fee and surcharge that didn't bear the title "tax" and cut funding for the schools. In a state where education is our calling card, Romney was responsible for the second largest per pupil cut in education funding in America during his second year in office.
....Romney sincerely believes that people are better off on their own: on their own to deal with their unemployment; with under-resourced public schools and no way to pay for college; with neglected infrastructure; with a job market that needs skills they didn't have. He does not fundamentally believe that government should help people help themselves. And he has a record as governor of Massachusetts to demonstrate how much damage his leadership does to people, their families and our future.
See? That's Mitt Romney. And who's saying so? My African American governor, Deval Patrick.
And MHP and her panel KNOW this, just like I know it, just like anyone who has paid attention knows it. So I can more than forgive them for saying :WTF: because that's just how I feel when I see that picture of avuncular, toothy grinning Grampa, too.
And you? You just need to educate yourself on what this man is all about, and stop falsely accusing people of racism when they call a stinking hypocrite who did everything in his power to screw over people of color a hypocrite.

Shameful. I wish they'd leave candidates' kids/grandkids alone. All of them. Both sides. Period.
