I frequently drive to Vermont from my home in Connecticut. In the winter, nearly every weekend. We joke about slow traffic. If you get jammed up, it is a virtual gaurantee that the first car in line is a Subaru (the official car of Vermont) with Vermont plates. The locals seem to live to drive 5mph below the speed limit on the mountain access roads, just as a "fuck you" to the tourists who pay all their bills.

I'm not kidding...tourists pay virtually all of Vermont's bills. Even if you're making cheese and maple syrup, who are you selling it too? Tourists. Run a country store? Tourists. Yet, drive any road in Vermont and you'll be stuck behind a Subaru going 30 mph. And the driver is laughing and telling his goats to quiet down and lay low.
