7. What I want to understand is what is the difference/connection between the vortex

and the jet stream.

Every winter, the jet stream dips down across North America and brings very cold temperatures with it. Is that always related to this polar vortex?

Why is this the first time most of us non-meteorologists are hearing the term 'polar vortex'?
