Taxes. IRS. The War. I Just Don't Understand This. [View all]

My wife is deployed at the moment and will return in May. She then heads off to Bahrain for a year in June. Her orders to Afghanistan were cancelled because of the draw down. She was deployed to a combat theater in 2009. Now, in 2012, the IRS needs proof for the 8 months of tax free income in 2009. They have an indication that she was there, but need confirmation. "Our records show that you or your spouse served in a combat zone, contingency operation, or hazardous duty station during 2009. However, we have not received confirmation from the Department of Defense."

"In order to provide you with the special provisions and protection of combat deferment, please provide the follwing information:"

This is insane. She has to prove she was where she was because two agencies can't talk to eachother? How fucking special is that? We are at a 25% rate. What is Romney's rate again?
