(26,600 posts)At least around here, Raccoons go into heat Late December and usually do not get out until the end of the March time frame. The males get very territorial and grouchy. Later on the females get to the point where they try and return to a solitary existence to have their babies - i.e., drive the males off.
A Rabid Raccoon or one with Distemper would have been unrelenting. My guess is that this was just a juvie going thru their first mating season.
Raccoons are wild and unless you can catch them while young, you have virtually no chance of socializing them to even be tolerable. Even so, my understanding is that even those raised as "pets" have to be given extra space in mating season. The best news is to not try and feed them. Should they become a recurring pest, there are no-kill services which are available which will trap and transport the Raccoon to a more appropriate location. In no case should you try and socialize them or encourage them - they are far too curious and far too destructive to be desirable.
