Because it is so easy to reason with a spouse that has an alcohol or drug problem, which is the cause of a lot of spousal abuse. I guess as long as the woman isn't beaten senseless EVERY day, she can remember the good times, right?

Dear God. This has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You can't "re-find those reasons" with someone that isn't emotionally healthy, and frankly, anyone that is guilty of spousal abuse is far from emotionally healthy.
