There is no physical dependency on pot. Stopping suddenly will only result in the unhappiness one gets when some foodstuff runs out and a trip to the store isn't possible. There are no physical effects from stopping even heavy use suddenly.

People do self medicate with it and it works. Those people will be really unhappy if it is withdrawn and nothing else is prescribed.

However, no tolerance is built up even over a long period. There is no physical withdrawal.

While pot isn't a panacea by any means, more rubbish like this article, which doesn't define its terms at all, should be taken with a pound of salt.
