He has the advantage of having an (R) after his name after all. The media, in general, also likes him. Plus, his political revenge on a Democrat will play well with the Republican base who doesn't like that he cozied up to Obama.
If Christie were a Democrat, the media would be calling for him to resign and be carted off to jail, and declaring his political future to be deader than Robb Stark's chances for the Iron Throne.
