In reply to the discussion: Do you use any tools while you browse DU? [View all]Make7
(8,550 posts)I use FireFox and employ the following 'tools' primarily for the functions listed:
userContent.css file to hide signatures, hide the icons and post counts by usernames in posts, change the edit text from red to grey and move it to the right side of the post, change the new reply indicator on the My Posts tab to just be underlined text instead of coloring the tab yellow, hide the no-avatar grey avatar, add a rounded border and drop shadow to excerpt boxes, and more stuff I can't even remember.
GreaseMonkey to change the My Subscriptions tab into a My Bookmarks tab, change the username in posts to link to profile pages instead of journals and also open them in a new tab, ignore threads by author, create checkboxes on DU mail pages to delete multiple PM's without having to open them, and probably a couple other things I've forgotten.
Adblock Plus to hide large image files in signatures (pretty much anything over 1/2 Mb).
Paste Email Plus for pasting code in posts - mainly just to add a rounded border and inset drop shadow to my excerpt boxes.
I have the userContent.css and GreaseMonkey stuff set up to work only on the www.democraticunderground.com domain, I set a custom user agent in FireFox to display the mobile view when I use election.democraticunderground.com, and I use sync.democraticunderground.com to see what it looks like without any of my customizations.
When I want to save something (which is not too often) I usually just save the whole page as an HTML file - it normally doesn't take up much space and then I know I'm not missing anything.
