Among very conservative and progressive friends, I have never heard anything like this. I am fully aware that there are people like this out there, but they are not that common. I am sure you can find an atheist out there who has said something similar. Their opinion wouldn't be worth the paper it is printed on either. I would be willing to bet that this newspapers value isn't worth more than the paper it is printed on.
