(45,319 posts)are my political opposition. Those policies are Republican policies, and I am a Democrat. A thread that is flat out praise for a man who urges others to follow Republican social policy on so many levels needs a political response. Promoting an anti gay, anti choice, anti contraception public figure in a political forum should get political response. On a Democratic site, those views should be soundly and constantly rejected and those who advocate such views should not be promoted. That's what I think, but I'm a pro choice, pro equality liberal Democrat.
If folks wanted to discuss Francis as a religious figure, they could easily do so in a religious group here on DU, protected from criticism as they venerate a bigoted man who says contraception is a terrible thing.
GD is not about religion, it's about politics. Francis has politics. I reject his views on gay people, civil rights, women, contraception, abortion, mixing of Church and State, his protection of abusing priests and his lack of action in protecting the children he is supposed to protect. Learn to live with it.
