I understand the logic you are using to arrive at that conclusion, but it's faulty. People are asked all the time questions that they cannot answer since doing so would reveal classified information. They ALWAYS say some flavor of "I cannot answer that question for reasons of National Security" or some such. Hell, the Carabinieri (Italian police) once asked me a question that I had to answer in much that way, and I'm a total nobody. I reported the question and how I responded up the chain and no one had any issue with it.

It happens quite literally ALL THE TIME and is handled in just that way. Sure, admitting that there is a security reason you can't answer admits something, but it shuts down further questioning quite nicely and is exactly how those with security clearances are told to answer.
