U.S. man charged with sending ricin to Obama to change plea

Fri Jan 17, 2014 8:01am EST

(Reuters) - A Mississippi man accused of sending poisoned letters to President Barack Obama and two other public officials, and pinning them on an Elvis impersonator, is expected in U.S. court on Friday to change his plea, court documents showed.

James Everett Dutschke has been jailed since his arrest last April, when authorities accused him of sending ricin-tainted letters to Obama, U.S. Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi and a judge.

Ricin is a highly toxic protein found in castor oil plants that can kill an adult human in tiny doses.

Dutschke is due in U.S. District Court in Oxford, Mississippi, at 1:30 p.m. local time (1930 GMT), according to a hearing notice filed with the court.
