(45,251 posts)to speak God's truth to them. There is even some teaching that, once God calls you into a church, you "grow where you're planted." Meaning in part that that particular church is where God wants you and it is a lifetime commitment, maybe akin to marriage. So, if you decide this pastor is not your cup of tea, too bad. He's the one God wants you to hear.
So, while there is not the express claim of infallibility on the part of one person, as in the Catholic Church, there is a strong implication that God is talking to you out of the mouth of your pastor.
If you are a strong believer, there is almost no way out of that. I know women who became nuns in a cult, even though they longed for husbands and children and normal lives, but could not tear themselves away for decades, despite emotional abuse and sometimes physical abuse.
Even then, it usually took some dramatic event, like being called home in another state to say goodbye to a dying family member. And some never tore themselves away.
why? Because they had made a vow to God that they would be nuns there for life.
