Air Canada’s attempt to avoid a strike or lockout may have hit a snag as more than a dozen flights have been cancelled after several pilots called in sick.

Nineteen flights scheduled to leave Montreal’s Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport have been cancelled. Air Canada pilots began calling in sick because of stress and fatigue on Saturday morning, forcing the flight cancellations due to a shortage of pilots to fly at the last minute, reports CTV News.

Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick would not address the issue with the pilots specifically.

“All we can say is that on this peak travel weekend, we face a number of operational challenges, including weather,” he said in an email to the Star. “The vast majority of Air Canada employees are working hard to get our customers to destination safely.” .............(more)
