Unfortunately, the c. 2006 elections or so, elected massive Republican majorities, in the US congress ... and also in state governments. And they're now passing hundreds of anti-abortion laws.
It was the new, 66%+ Republican supermajority in Texas, that passed the transvaginal sonogram - forced rape - law. With a republican supermajority, there was no hope of stopping it.
And worse? That law somehow passed one federal appeal, in the local Louisiana appeals court.
So far in fact, federal appeals are not working. So you are right to raise the alarm; could go either way. And right now? The most successful attack on Pro-Life laws in history, is now underway. "Thanks" to republican supermajorities througout the US state legislatures especially.
This is the most serious and successful attack on abortion, since Roe v. Wade.
