In addition, Zimmerman had pegged him as a suspicious person and looked at him in a negative light. I'll bet any movement by Trayvon would be seen as malevolent. Zimmerman also seemed to feel he had the same powers as a policeman would have.
With those factors, Trayvon was in trouble. Standing his ground could have been viewed by Zimmerman as looking for a confrontation. IMO Trayvon had no good way out with someone who was armed that had Zimmerman's mindset.

perhaps you would not "chase or shoot him" - that does not hold true for everyone else with a gun

"standing one's ground" generally refers to someone in their home or other place they have a right

The 911 call that Zimmerman himself made is evidence that he chased Martin. He admits it.
