(6,597 posts)Yes, it's all well and good that parents can usually access them online to put money in, but what the schools aren't saying is that kids can spend that money not only on their regular lunch but on any of the extras. It's very easy for a child to use up a weeks worth of lunch money in 3 days. We went through it with our granddaughter a few times and I've talked with others who say they resorted to packing lunches for their kids because the extras were depleting the lunch account funds. Elementary kids sometimes don't understand the idea that there is an account with money in it and the extras aren't included with their meal.
I certainly hope whoever made the decision to humiliate those children gets fired. It's one thing to give them a snack if they don't have the money to pay for their meal but it's incredibly cruel to take their food and throw it away. Humiliate the child and waste the food. Doesn't make sense.
