(4,033 posts)I donate and shop at a St. Vincent DePaul. A few years ago my brother was in the hospital for 7 weeks and had about 12 surgeries. The St. Vincent DePaul Society at his Church during the time he was in the hospital and his return home, made sure there was meals on the table for his family, they gave them gift cards for the grocery store. When he was home someone visited every day, because his wife and kids were all at work.
I had a friend (now deceased) who was an attorney. He had an older couple with an intellectually disabled son, as his clients. They asked his assistance with future plans for their son. He got the son in a program at Goodwill Industries (to me this word denotes "profit". The first paycheck the son brought home was for the net amount of $1. Goodwill charged for "training fees', lunches (the son took his lunch to work every day) and assorted other charges. The couple removed their son from Goodwill.
