I can remember when Google first came out (I'd used yahoo, excite, and Alta Vista before that) and it would do a search quickly and when you clicked on a result, it went right to that URL.

These days, it's much slower due to, I suspect, Google analytics and the data mining that goes on.

If your browser is set to show the URL that links go to before you click, you'll see that Google results don't go directly to the site. And it slows everything down.

Example, a search for Democratic Underground shows us as the first hit.

But when you click on it you don't go directly to the site, the link is longer:

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCoQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.democraticunderground.com%2F&ei=GnryUtDyJ9HCoAT06IH4Bg&usg=AFQjCNEOCbW9PoMHchsdTbb__tDvyNKzAw&sig2=ln3mpalVRu7Z91HmybLLng

Now why is that???
