(135,425 posts)I was worried for you--I wish it hadn't had to happen to you at all, but since it did happen, I'm glad you're going to be OK.
And as for raccoons, I hear in some corners they make good eatin'! Perhaps they'll become a fancy menu item, like bison and ostrich....that'll cull the population a bit!!
On a more serious note, I meant to mention this to you but I got busy and forgot about it--when I lived in northern VA, I had a place that backed up on a nice piece of woodland. In that woodland, apparently, there were a lot of raccoons (they never approached my house, I had two bold and brave dogs that were fierce watchdogs--sweethearts, but very territorial). Anyway, I guess they were giving some of the other neighbors a bit of trouble and creating a nuisance, so the Fish and Game/Wildlife (not sure who was in charge, this was a number of years back) sent me a letter asking for permission to put raccoon birth control bait here and there on my property. I said sure, go on ahead, and they did it. It might be worth calling your county people and asking if they have any kind of program along these lines--it'll at least keep the population of those biting, hunching a-holes down!
