Two damaged screens has often seen squirrels in our kitchen looking for food. My father was attacked by one (no rabies, just scratches on a terrified squrrel) It also played havoc on our alarm system.

You may need to lace them with something that doesn't taste quite as good, like haberno peppers or capascin peppers.. it WILL discourage them if applied once in a while.
