Deep down I think Justice O'Connor meant well. Reagan was too stupid to know better, and his handlers did not mean well, but I doubt Justice O'Connor really wanted to reinstate slavery. Our 1%, on the other hand, would only object to slavery now because they'd be responsible for the food, housing, and health care of their slaves. At the moment, they have the best of both worlds--dirt cheap labor and no responsibility for the laborers.
