Back in the late 1800's and turn of the century, deceased people would be photographed in real life poses..like sititng in a chair,
or at a table, or dead babies dressed and being held in the arms of the parents.
For those who had access and money to pay for it, these pics were considered appropriate momentos, it was known as post-morton photography.

the first photo on that page struck me as one of those.
