It's also a little known fact that nearly all of the oil companies financed climate model studies back in the 1980s and 90s to help them explore for new oil reserves. These studies were actually quite accurate at predicting where reserves might be found. It was a side note that climate modelers stumbled upon the link between global CO2 levels and global temperatures while doing work for the oil industry. So in essence, the oil companies planted the seed of their own "destruction".
