the mean (not to be confused with median) income in 2011 was $69,821.

However, the republicans wrongfully assume that the lefties want to make everyone earn exactly the same. Maybe I'm wrong in assuming this, but that isn't what the left wants. They want more of the gains from our productivity to flow back down to us at a little more than a mere trickle. They want someone who works 40 hours a week a minimum wage to be able to support themselves without government assistance.

I believe that a person who goes to school and gets a PhD in science or engineering should make more money than a person who drives a bus, but it doesn't mean that the bus driver shouldn't make a livable wage. Minimum wage, in my opinion, should earn you enough money that if two people in a household work 40 hours a week each, that they can live a middle class lifestyle and not need food stamps and other public assistance and they should be able to raise a family with reasonable comfort.
