In reply to the discussion: I would walk through fire for the women of DU, my wife, my daughter, my mother, every woman I know. [View all]mathematic
(1,618 posts)I can't hardly believe that this simplistic and obvious image rehabilitation is being taken seriously by anybody. It reads like pulp. The men are MEN, heroic, self-sacrificing, noble. The women, delicate and vulnerable, needing protection. I don't know which is more offensive: that you believe these sexist clichés or that you managed to use them un-ironically in 2014.
Has any woman actually asked you to walk through a damn fire for them? You conveniently framed your declaration in such a way to suggest that anybody that doesn't stand up and give you a rousing ovation for your rage-tinted view of gender equality is some sort of sexist degenerate. Why don't you take the following pledge, "I promise to treat all people equally, with dignity and respect, both basic and earned" instead of putting all women on pedestals no person can live up to?
Finally, you can't use your metaphorical and exaggerated language as a defense, for example, no "you don't get what I'm saying", etc. It is precisely this language and the underlying thoughts it represents I'm critical of.
