They're not upset about that. The majority easily segue into the fact that they're not biologically related and work with it.

What they're upset about is that there's absolutely no reason to do that. The successful comic book movies adaptations out there all treat the source material properly. They adapt where needed from one medium to the other and tweak things as you'd expect to update it reflecting science and so forth - which the comics have done as well.

This change does not respect the source material and that's why they're upset. There's absolutely no reason to do it. It's not going to bring in a whole lot of people because "hey! diversity!". It's just going to set people against it more - which was already happening within the fan circles after Fox started threatening to sue news sites that were posting about the plot synopsis that got leaked which the director denied was accurate in the slightest. With it being a rush job on top of it, there's lots of reasons to be unhappy with it.

But please, proceed in just calling out nerds and geeks in your superior way.
