(38,621 posts)But if there had been a clearer message from the admins, earlier in the game, that those kinds of threads were unacceptable on DU the people posting them might not have felt empowered to do so.
The community standards are becoming more tolerant of treating women as sex objects - as evidenced by the fact that each of the threads I am aware of being locked as not within the SOP survived multiple jury votes (on the OP and farther down thread). As long as this place feels so hostile to women (even if it is only a few vocal and persistent folks making it feel that way), people who don't like that atmosphere will leave, leaving only people who think leaving threads like those standing is fine to create the new - even more tolerant of misogyny - community standards.
The locks are good - but more is needed before I will feel welcome and drawn to hang around much.
