I have noticed lately that the regular sugar we buy is much finer grained than it used to be. In fact, I was baking something the other week, and accused my husband of having filled the sugar canister with my "superfine" sugar, which I save for making caiphirinias or merengues or other instances where you need the sugar to dissolve more quickly.

Indeed, a new five-pound bag of sugar I opened was very fine grained. So your measurement may be a bit off by recent standards!

Still, it is sobering to the max to think of the difference between a teaspoon or a ton. I'd love to have just a teaspoon full of extra money, but now it seems so small.
