...all of whom are rescues. The latest one was found by our sons in August 2012, while they were on a pre-season soccer trip for their school - Carthage College in Kenosha WI. The team was in San Antonio for a week, ans 2 days before they were due to depart, they found an abandoned kitten about a block from their hotel. They took him back to the hotel, got him food, water and a bath. He was so tiny, the cap from a Gatorade bottle sufficed as a water bowl.

They called every no-kill shelter they could find. When no place would take him in, the team members passed the hat and bought the little guy a ticket back to WI. He lived with 5 team members in an off campus rental house until our older son graduated. He spent school breaks with us, and joined us full time last summer while the college grad looked for a job. When son #1 moved out of our house to live with a friend who is allergic to cats, Texas kitty became our #5. When found, he weighed a mere 1 lb 4 oz. He is now a BIG boy, topping the scales at a muscular 14 pounds. Biggest cat we've ever had, and we are crazy about him. His name is Winston.

When stationed in Japan in the Air Force nurse corps, I fell in love with a little kitten found by someone who lived in the same BOQ I did. I brought that cat back with me when I left Japan, and had him for 20 years.

This young Olympian has a big heart, and I salute him.
