(5,276 posts)Saw Mike Lofgren on Moyers a week or so ago and he laid it out in a well thought out and completer manner. The sub title of his recent book "The Party Is Over" puts in plainly - "How Republicans Went Crazy, Democrats Became Useless, And The Middle Class Got Shafted". This guy is, or at least was, a republican but he explains where we are now beautifully and obviously is way left of "democratic" people like Baucus and Schumer.
A lot of Obama loyalists like the surface rhetoric and just don't explore or dig deeper than this. A few supposed lib talkers had no idea about the TPP when callers brought it up.
The deep state, what Ike called the MI complex, Wall Street, big corporations - they are running things now. It all facilitated by corporate control of big media and legalized bribery as business as usual.
Anyone who is a progressive populist would not be pushing the TPP like Obama.
I don't see a good way out of where we are, a good way to get to a true democracy because what we have now isn't one at all, right from our screwed up voting systems and procedures.
And the ocean is indeed coming, places like the Maldives are going to be underwater, fossil fuels are fouling our waters, people can light their water faucets in our heartland, and still not a lot is being done to minimize what's going to happen. I fear for our children their children and even those of us with a good chance of being still around for a few decades.
