In reply to the discussion: No, President Obama Is Not A Hall-of-Fame-Worthy BS Artist, aka Why I Defend The ACA [View all]ProSense
(116,464 posts)16. Can you point to any statement by the President "championing Keystone XL"?
He definitely talks about fracking. I have never heard him "championing Keystone XL"
Last June, President Obama stated the XL pipeline would have to pass the national interest criteria of carbon pollution and climate change impacts:
But I do want to be clear: Allowing the Keystone pipeline to be built requires a finding that doing so would be in our nations interest. And our national interest will be served only if this project does not significantly exacerbate the problem of carbon pollution. The net effects of the pipelines impact on our climate will be absolutely critical to determining whether this project is allowed to go forward. Its relevant.

There is no evidence that thats true, he said. Obama noted temporary jobs would be created during the construction of the pipeline, but after that, were talking about somewhere between 50 and 100 (chuckles) jobs in an economy of 150 million working people.

Since the OP's ACA post is in response to a post about the environment, it's a fair question.
