The last incumbent to lose was Bush I, & before that, Carter.

The economy is not exactly booming at least for most people, with an increasing income gap and unemployment that is still intolerably high. The Republicans will do everything they can to crash the middle class, and will then blame the crash on the Democrats.

These are icy waters.
