who called it in

what, if any, adults were present when this happened

how the kid got the gun

what gun security was missing (was it just lying on a table, in an unlocked cabinet, handed to the kid...)

So, we know nothing pertinent except the kid managed to shoot himself. A tragedy, sure, and something was wrong, but not much to judge by.
