... and not so long ago as all that. Racial purity, ethnic cleansing, all rather inevitable outgrowths of the tendency of societies to objectify and villify those whom they do not choose to include within the group. The sad thing is that these attitudes do not go away with education (and may even be exacerbated by them), because they are seen as the necessary consequences of cold-blooded "rationality." We tend in the US to trivialize the Nazis as "madmen," failing to recognize that they perceived themselves (and were perceived by many others) as epitomizing "modern" thought.

But what a strange direction in which to take a thread that was a satire on the Republican War on Women, eh?
