We were just all going to be dead within the first 24 hours though.
If you ever want to read a really good, well researched, completely impossible book, get "Alas, Babylon" by Pat Frank. It's a great book from 1959 about America after a nuclear war, but it doesn't seem to have any real understanding of fallout.
It's about life in this small town of Florida that is about 30 miles from Orlando (which is hit by one and maybe two missles). It's also about 100 miles away from Tampa and Jacksonville, both of which are also destroyed. Somehow, the town survives and never deals with fallout or is overrune by refugees or ends up with horrible diseases out of the Middle Ages.
Still...good book.

It's bemusing to watch the subjective content of a thing debated over as though it were absolute...
